You already know, that we’re pretty passionate about every Doin’it event.
But this time, literally, I’m Doin’it with passion. DJ Passion that is!
If you haven’t heard of the man by now, you must still be in hibernation..
Crux goers probably know him best for his “Pump Up The Jam”-90s-parties, where he celebrates everything, that decade had to offer.
From Eurodance to golden-era-Hip Hop, nothing is safe from his sharp and innovative DJ skills.
He’s definitely very high on my DJs-you-must-have-seen-list, right now. And that list is rather short, too, haha.

EeZ UP, GAL!

Just recently I discovered this little gem, by Slum Village, called “Ez Up”.

I’m admittedly not too familiar with their catalogue, which explains why I was sleeping on this one.
As far as I know, it’s from their post-Dilla-era, but that doesn’t do it any harm, at all.

I have it on my iPod for some time now, and it’s brightening up these cold as winter days for me, ever since.

Plus, today’s Valentine’s Day, so I thought I’d share some love, with this one

04.02. Doin’ it (without Mixwell & Secret Host)

After a short hiatus, “Doin’it” is back!

Update: Unfortunately Mixwell and his host had to cancel the show, since their booker messed up their schedule!

This time we haven’t one, but two special guests! One of which, I can’t quite tell you about, but I’m pretty sure, y’all be really excited, finding out who that turns out to be, next saturday.
The other one, though, is none less that Hamburg’s own DJ Mixwell, who has worked with some of Germany’s most heavyweight Rap artists. He also is no stranger to rocking a club, of course.
I’ve just recently witnessed him, and I was quite pleased how he incorporated some less obvious tracks in his set of classics from the past, present and future.

My man Scream, who will carry on our little plaster heritage, that DJ Slick laid the foundation for, a couple months back, and I will ~~also~~ still be there, of course.

It’s still going to be an exciting night, that you shouldn’t miss by no means!

Wow, just pulled that out by total accident. This gets me in such a reminiscing state… In the late 90ies, my whole world was just collecting records… and so I was working at BamBam Records to get my hands on every scrape of the black gold – and this was a huge one.

DJ Premier was “the” goto producer at the time, so naturally everybody and their mother was pumpin’ this track. And what a banger it is…

The Already Notorious B.I.C.

Not even a week old and already appearing on the Billboard charts.
No, I’m not talking bout the latest hitrecord, this is about a baby.
Whether this is a desirable spot to be in, is a whole nother story, but Blue Ivy Carter, the daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, will probably continue to break records.

Now if she will be trying to follow her daddy’s footprints and become a rapper, like Willow Smith did it, is uncertain at that point.
What is certain though, is the fact, that these footprint’s are those of a giant, and will be very hard to reproduce.

Of course there are approximatively a bajillion songs to cement this point, but I picked one of the less famous ones:
“Hola Hovito” was produced by Timbaland, and is quite the anthem. Jigga brags in his verse, that if he ain’t better than BIG, he’s the closest one.

Happy New Year everyone !

I hope you had a blast on new years. I had. And I slept till 1.30 today and I can’t walk straight line still.

But the weekend is comin’ and after a few days of chillin’ and relaxin’, I expect all ya’ll to show up for our next “Doin It” partey. The guest of honor will be none other than Mr. DJ Dynamite of the infamous, notorious and good looking band “Dynamite Deluxe”. He is one hell of a producer and a great dj !… plus an overall nice dude anyways. I really look forward to this.
Here is one of my favorite songs the man produced back in 2001 of his album “Welcome To My World”. “Uptown Top Rankin” was a remake of the 1978 song by Althea & Donna. It featured the then 21 year old Estelle and went straight in my playlist…

If you enjoy this tune come by this saturday as I will try to get him to play an all dancehall set.
Bring your cans, lighters, whistles, rattles and …. basically anything that makes noise or gives of a light.

A couple of family gatherings later and this year’s Christmas is already over again. I hope you where all able to unwrap some nice presents and, if Christian holidays is none of your business, that, of course, didn’t mean, you weren’t welcome celebrating “Doin’ it on Christmas” with us.
Speaking of which, I think everyone had a blast.
Now where headed straight for 2012, and I’m curious what it has in store for us, Hip Hop-wise.

Now lets get on topic: Below you see a picture of Cam’ron. Nothing special so far. He appears to be chilling at some hotel or something.

Is he bragging his new Gucci belt, reaching for his Tech or is he just checking his belly, to see how much weight he gained during the holiday season?

No wait, he just forgot to put on pants that morning.
And all that from the man who more or less coined the term “no homo”, years before everybody and their mother started spamming it all over the interwebs..

Since this blog is about music I present to you one of my favorite Dipset tunes, which I always plan on playing and then always forget to.. Maybe next time, since Doin’ it is here to stay in 2012.

Doin It On Christmas

Ho! Ho! Ho! Christmas is coming.. or should we call it Cruxmas this year ? ( I simply should stop djing and become a comedian already , I know ) ’cause after a traditional family feast on christmas eve, we – Mr. Nuke Ellington and Dj Scream (that’s me) – will be on the decks at the one and only Crux Club !

As you can see here we have been workin on our christmas spirit for quite a while now ( check the mixtape ) and so I hope to see you all on the 24th to party with us.

My ’97 Mentality

These quiet days seem to be the perfect time to reminisce.
(And by quiet I mean, barring fanatic Christmas shoppers or the construction site next to my office, of course.)
Most people like to take pictures to capture their favorite memories, and there is nothing wrong with that. I have a very different way of revisiting sweet memories, though.

In 1998 the first Wu-Tang Killa Bees compilation hit the stores and became one of the first Hip Hop albums I ever bought. I had no idea who these artists where, plus I could only grasp some words here and there, that I could make any sense of.
Looking back, the record is probably not even that good, but when I listen to it, it’s like I’m in school again, bumping my Walkman on the subway, while heading to the skatepark, instead of doing homework.
That was my little ’97 mentality back then.
Cappadonna had yet to become official Wu member when recording the song named “’97 Mentality”, and boy did he spit like a hungry motherf***er.
The combination of his flow and RZA’s out of the box production, made this stand out track into one of my all time favorites.
Ghostface on the hook is just icin on the cake.
