X Marks The Spot

People familiar with this blog know, that our main focus lies on US rap music. Today, though, I have another exception to that rule ready.
Some of you may have already heard of Ebow X, many may not.
I have her on my radar for a couple of months now, and was only hoping for the adequate release to blog about.
About two weeks ago she finally dropped a promotional mix, on which she exposes her whole repertoire.
From uptempo electro bangers to slower jams, with thoughtful lyrics, she hypnotizes the listener with her monumental voice.
Don’t get me wrong, she’s still a diamond in the very rough, but that’s how I like my artists anyways. In that regard she reminds me of another young talent I had high hopes for a couple years back: Shystie from East London.
Hopefully Ebow will not quietly disappear, like Shy did, unfortunately..

Ebow has good productions, a great voice and is from Munich, so don’t be surprised if you hear more from her in the future.

Take It Easy, Sam!

With the sun making her reappearance and the prospect of seeing the ocean soon in mind, I’m in the mood for sharing a sunny tune today.
And since we finally have Samy Deluxe as our special guest this Saturday, what would be more fitting than a tune by the Big Baus himself.

Er und ich ist für Deutschland, wie Jay und Nas für Amerika” (“Sam and Savas in Germany, compare to Jay and Nas in America“), Kool Savas once claimed on a collabo with Sam.
If so, Samy “got 99 problems, but a b*tch ain’t one“, one might think.
But wait: On the reunion LP by Dynamite Deluxe, the group through which Sam became a household name in the german Rap game, almost 15 years ago, there is this tune called ‘Mein Problem (Take It Easy)’. The song is about Sam having issues with a girl, because she seems to reject him, no matter how much he shows her his affection. Whether this is all made up for the song, we’ll never get to know, probably, but what really counts, is the fact that this reggeaish track is one of those seldom occasions of german rap artists producing music you can chill out to.

Enjoy the sun and prepare yourself for this weeks Doin’it. It’s gonna be legendary!

Hell Yeah, F***ing Right!

Drake just released a video for the album cut, ‘HYFR’, wich starts out with footage from his original Bar Mitzva, where you can see him swag it out on the floor already, at the innocent age of 13.
Then the clip shows how he celebrated his Re-Bar Mitzva. More then ten years later, this now includes righteous things, like hookers, O.G.s in the synagog and a Cro-inspired Young Tunechi, rocking a panda mask.

Faithful club goers, also knowing how to party with class and style, are welcome to get down with Batman and Scream tonight.

It’s a celebration b*tches!

Timbaland – Break Ya Back

Even though, Doin’ it on Saturday, combined with the stupid shift to summer time, that night, still has my limbs feel a little heavy, it doesn’t prevent me from blogging, after a hard days work.

The subject track, is the preview for Timbaland’s forthcoming third installent, of his “Shock Value” series, which I never was too much of a fan of. The song got released last week and did not create much buzz.
Admittedly, it’s probably not even that hot, but it still got me hooked somehow. Timbaland provides us with some nice drums, as he usually does, and that’s what I love about it.
At least it’s the perfect tune, to treat your hang over, while still having enough bounce to remind you, of the wild night, that caused that headache..

24.03.2012 – Doin’ it

This time around, it’s all home field advantage.

  • Scream is back from Asia and ready to Do it again!
  • Nuke is one year older, and far from being too old to Do it!
  • Bobby is Doin’ it anyways, cuz that’s just what he does!

Of course, we’re all looking forward, to see you Doin’ it, with us.
In the mean time, get your thug on. See y’all on Saturday!

03.03.2012 – Doin’ it/Sneakin Freakin Afterparty

Clap you hands everybody, if you got whut it takes,
cause it’s VDJ Grec Nice, and he’s on the videos and Nuke is on the breaks!

Yes, lucky yous, you heard it right! Just right after Passion tore down the house last week, Doin’ it is already back again with another one.
This time around, we have our buddy Grec, back to delight you, with his videos.
But that’s not all we got in store (intentional pun coming up). Munich’s own sneaker store (I warned ya), Amen, and Germany’s dedicated sneaker mag, Sneaker Freaker, present the Puma x UNDFTD Luxe 2 Pack, that day, and since last time we had a really great night, we’ll be teaming up again, to throw down another installment, of the Sneakin Freakin Afterparty!

See y’all on Saturday!

25.02.2012 – Doin’ it w/ DJ Passion

You already know, that we’re pretty passionate about every Doin’it event.
But this time, literally, I’m Doin’it with passion. DJ Passion that is!
If you haven’t heard of the man by now, you must still be in hibernation..
Crux goers probably know him best for his “Pump Up The Jam”-90s-parties, where he celebrates everything, that decade had to offer.
From Eurodance to golden-era-Hip Hop, nothing is safe from his sharp and innovative DJ skills.
He’s definitely very high on my DJs-you-must-have-seen-list, right now. And that list is rather short, too, haha.

See y’all on Saturday!

EeZ UP, GAL!

Just recently I discovered this little gem, by Slum Village, called “Ez Up”.

I’m admittedly not too familiar with their catalogue, which explains why I was sleeping on this one.
As far as I know, it’s from their post-Dilla-era, but that doesn’t do it any harm, at all.

I have it on my iPod for some time now, and it’s brightening up these cold ass winter days for me, ever since.

Plus, today’s Valentine’s Day, so I thought I’d share some love, with this one ;-)

04.02. Doin’ it (without Mixwell & Secret Host)

After a short hiatus, “Doin’it” is back!

Update: Unfortunately Mixwell and his host had to cancel the show, since their booker messed up their schedule!

This time we haven’t one, but two special guests! One of which, I can’t quite tell you about, but I’m pretty sure, y’all be really excited, finding out who that turns out to be, next saturday.
The other one, though, is none less that Hamburg’s own DJ Mixwell, who has worked with some of Germany’s most heavyweight Rap artists. He also is no stranger to rocking a club, of course.
I’ve just recently witnessed him, and I was quite pleased how he incorporated some less obvious tracks in his set of classics from the past, present and future.

My man Scream, who will carry on our little plaster heritage, that DJ Slick laid the foundation for, a couple months back, and I will also still be there, of course.

It’s still going to be an exciting night, that you shouldn’t miss by no means!

P.S.: The attached song might, or might not, give you a clue, who our mysterious host will be come April ;-)
